OmegAlg 3 Supplement Prototype:

Omega 3, DHA/EPA supplements are vital for normal metabolism but are considered essential fatty acids, that can be synthesised by the human body when the diet includes the shorter-chain Omega 3 fatty acid ALA.

The Company is developing the technology to produce them from micro-algae and not from fish oil source, with a better quality standard.

Omega-3 fatty acids hold a number of significant health benefits. Not only do they support many everyday bodily functions, they also help protect against certain diseases and medical conditions.

Aside from dietary choices, people traditionally try to consume more Omega-3 fatty acids by eating fish or taking krill or fish oil supplements. However, this approach isn’t the most effective source of Omega-3, nor is it particularly sustainable. Clearly, we must find a better way to derive these essential nutrients – and that’s just what Uira is committed to doing.

What exactly are the benefits of omega-3 supplements, and how does our natural, algae-based approach differ from the rest?

Omega 3 and your health

Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats that have biological benefits proven by scientific studies. Experts, such as Dr Frank Sacks at the Harvard School of Public Health, recommend that people consume this nutrient every day.

Exactly what impact do omega-3 fatty acids have on your health? As far as normal bodily functions, the nutrient supports:

  • Blood clotting
  • Cell membrane development in the brain
  • Cardiovascular health
  • Visual and nerve development in infants

Omega 3 may also provide the following benefits:

  • Lowers inflammation, easing asthma and arthritis
  • Reduces symptoms of ADHD
  • Protects against Alzheimer’s disease
  • Treats depression
  • Decreases risk for heart disease

As a whole, getting an adequate amount of omega-3 fatty acids is a great way to stay healthier. Although people can consume some of the nutrient by eating the right kind of fish, oil and nuts, many individuals require nutritional supplements to meet the recommended levels. Unfortunately, many of the products that are on the market rely on fish or are produced in a non-sustainable way.

Sustainable Omega 3

Uira is developing an alternative to traditional Omega-3 supplements. Our processes derive Omega-3 fatty acids from algae in a responsible, environmentally friendly manner. Doing so achieves three goals that are at the centre of our mission:

  1. Provide Omega-3 products for vegans and vegetarians, along with everyone else
  2. Minimise negative impacts on the ecosystem
  3. Provide the best Omega-3 supplements by going straight to the source

Why focus on Omega-3 supplements for vegans? Several studies have shown that vegetarians and vegans have lower Omega-3 levels compared to those who consume fish, as outlined by a report in Clinical Nutrition. Because some people don’t consume fish or krill oil, we want to make sure they have a way to attain this vital nutrient.

The last point is also important: Not only is our method environmentally responsible, it also provides a better, more sustainable source of Omega 3. Fish get omega-3 fatty acids by eating algae, so our method essentially cuts out the middle man. Whereas traditional supplements threaten the ecosystem with overfishing, our algae-based approach circumvents this problem altogether. Not only that, the process we’re developing utilises renewable energy and grows algae without taxing marine life.

Better for the Earth, better for you: That’s the Uira difference. And that’s the way Omega-3 supplements should be.
